1 "Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me.
2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.
3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him."
2 Corinthians 11:1-4

13 "For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works."
2 Corinthians 11:13-15

Before Satan tries to deceive a group of people, he often will try to deceive one other person first.  He often convinces that person that God has chosen them to give the truth to, all the other religions have it wrong.  The person Satan often chooses is someone who already has reasons for not trusting organized churches anyway.  He sometimes convinces them that they have been chosen to be God's Savior for the world, they are the Messiah.

6 "I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed."
Galatians 1:6-9

Paul said they could come in the name of an apostle, an angel, or just a man. How many cults can you think of that started because someone claimed that an angel had appeared to them and told them that God had chosen them as His messenger of the true religion? Satan will then deceive the people into elevating them and their words to a messianic level.

In 2 Corinthians 11:4 we read that the false messenger would preach: "another Jesus" "another spirit" and "another gospel."  Satan's strategy is often to (1) attack the Person and Work of CHRIST, (2) attack the Person and Work of the HOLY SPIRIT, then (3) bring in a new basis for your Salvation ("another gospel").  We could give you many examples of this from the doctrine of the cults.

In 2 Corinthians 11:3 said: "as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety."  Let's go back to Genesis chapter 3, where we will find the last 5 subtleties.

In Genesis 3:1 it says:

"NOW the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?"

The first thing Satan did in the Garden of Eden was to attack the integrity and the authority of the very Word of God. He is still doing that today.

16 "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works."    (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

3 "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables."  (2 Timothy 4:3-4)

"And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:" (Genesis 3:4) (Romans 5:12; 6:23;  Hebrews 9:27;  Acts 17:31-32;  Revelation 21:8)

God said that if Adam and Eve ate off the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, the punishment for their sin would be death.  Satan doesn't want lost people to fear death or a coming judgment.

"For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil."  (Genesis 3:5)

The physical eyes of Adam and Eve were already open.  That is not what Satan was promising.  He was promising spiritual enlightenment.  Satan still does that today.  He promises to give people special insight or knowledge that others don't have, or have access to.

"For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil."  (Genesis 3:5)

For Satan to convince people of this involves two wrong views:
1. A FALSE VIEW OF GOD - Satan tries to bring God down on man's level.  FALSE VIEW OF MAN - Either man is divine, or he may attain it.
"You don't need God, you are God."

See (Isaiah 14:12-15,  41:18-25,  42:8,  43:10-11,  44:6,  45:22; Romans 1:18-23)

"For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil."  (Genesis 3:5)

1. Relativism - Situational Ethics
Opinion based values, morality, standards, priorities, etc.

2. Accountability Factor
New Age public education programs like Values Clarification.  "Decide what's right for you!" Values are not to be imposed from without.  Not God, the Bible, your parents, society, or the government. Values must be subjectively discovered from within.

3. No absolute Truth or Values
What was right is now wrong, what was wrong is now right.

4. Doctrinal Ambiguity
Truth changes - it means something different now.

I believe Satan is a firm believer of: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"  If it worked in the past it will still work today.  You can probably come up with many examples yourself of how Satan is using these same 7 subtleties today in false religious movements.
