The Roman's Road Plan of Salvation

I like to take them to one other verse first: Psalm 145:17

“The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.”

Now when you take them to Romans 3, it allows them to see who they are, in relation to who God is.  He is righteous and holy, they are unrighteous and sinful.

Some prefer to start with 1 John 5:13 “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life”  Use which is most comfortable for you.

1. Romans 3:10 “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:”
Help them to see if there are none righteous, that includes you, and that includes them.

2. Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
Not only are none of us righteous, but we are all sinners.

3. Romans 6:23a “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
This means that death is the payment for our sin, but God offers us a free gift.  You don't have to work for a gift.

4. Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
"Commendeth" means to show or put on display.

5. Romans 10:9-10 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

6. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
They need to believe in their heart: Christ's death, burial, and resurrection.  They need to then confess this with their mouth.

7. Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
We call on the Lord to save us through prayer.

You then ask them if they would like you to pray with them to ask Jesus to come into their heart, forgive their sin, and save them.  Encourage them to pray in their own words.  Tell them that praying is just like talking to a friend.  Jesus wants to be their best friend.  If they still hesitate, you may have to guide them through a simple prayer.  Have them repeat a simple prayer with them, one phrase at a time; but encourage them to think about the words as they are saying them.
